英國「衛報」(The Guardian)9日報導，以色列政府部長與政要們，正在力促美國總統當選人川普(Donald Trump)，儘速實現其競選承諾，翻轉美國十多年來的外交政策，承認耶路撒冷(Jerusalem)為以色列首都，並將美國大使館從特拉維夫(Tel Aviv)遷至耶路撒冷。
在此同時，身為川普以色列與中東議題顧問之一的佛里曼(David Friedman)也對「耶路撒冷郵報」(Jerusalem Post)說，川普將信守諾言。
佛里曼說，「這是選戰承諾，(川普陣營)有信守諾言的全部意願。」「我們將會看到美國與以色列之間有非常不同的、正向的關係。」
包括極右派教育部長班奈特(Naftali Bennett)在內的其他政治人物則更進一步，建議川普勝選後應釋出信號，宣告終結為解決以巴問題所提出的兩國方案(two-state solution)，以及巴勒斯坦建國的渴望。
以色列雖立法認定耶路撒冷為「永恆不可分割首都」，但多數國家並不承認，該市最終地位尚未確定。多數國家都將大使館設在特拉維夫。
